Mercedes diesel: from the OM611 of the 1990s to the OM654, the same engine capacity can conceal four entirely different engine families

This is the classic pitfall with Mercedes CDI engines: a 2.2 CDI shown on the registration document does not refer to a single part. Depending on the year and model, that same designation covers the OM611, l'OM646 or the OM651 — three engine families with absolutely no mechanical interchangeability. The same disparity exists with the 3.0 CDI V6, where the OM642 covers variants ranging from the OM642.832 to the OM642.993 depending on the generation and transmission. Before placing any order, the engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable reference.

Sprinter, Vito, Classe C and Classe E: the most represented models

The Mercedes range covers 26 models, from the Sprinter (the most represented) to the MB100, spanning 1988 to 2021. The Sprinter and Vito light commercials lead the way, followed by the Classe E and Classe C saloons, then the Classe A and Classe B. In terms of part families, turbos make up the majority of the catalogue, ahead of gearboxes and reconditioned bare engines. A transfer case is also available. Petrol engines are included — notably the M270 (1.5 and 1.6 Turbo, Classe A, B, CLA, GLA) and M276 (E 400, C 43 AMG, GLC 43 AMG 3.0 V6 biturbo) — but diesel accounts for the vast majority of the volume.

Critical identification points by engine family

On recent Sprinter and Vito models with the 2.1 CDI, the OM651 comes in at least seven distinct codes (651911, 651913, 651921, 651930, 651950, 651955, 651958); a twin-turbo version exists on the Sprinter. The Citan's 1.5 CDI is based on an OM607 derived from the Renault K9K, which sets it radically apart from all other in-house CDI blocks. The 1.6 CDI found on certain Classe A and Classe B models uses either the OM622 or the R9M depending on the variant. For the 2.0 CDI, two families coexist: the OM640 (Classe A W169, Vito) and the OM654 (more recent generations). These differences make the engine code essential for identifying the correct part category, whether you are looking for an exchange turbo, a gearbox or a bare engine.

    Frequently asked questions

Are your Mercedes parts compatible with my model?

We cover the vast majority of Mercedes engines. To get the exact part, give us your number plate or request an online quote: our advisers confirm compatibility using your registration document.

    Are reconditioned Mercedes parts reliable?

Yes. Every Mercedes part is reconditioned in our workshop, with wear parts replaced, bench-tested and guaranteed for up to 24 months. A reliable and far more affordable alternative to new, starting from a restored original part.

How does the exchange system work for a Mercedes part?

You order your reconditioned Mercedes part, we dispatch it, then you send us back your old unit (the core). We arrange all the transport both ways — you don't have to handle any logistics.

Do you deliver Mercedes parts everywhere, and how quickly?

Yes, we deliver throughout France and Europe. Depending on the availability of the reference, your Mercedes part leaves our workshop quickly, and you can pay in instalments, up to 10 payments.
