Which reconditioned engine fits my vehicle: diesel or petrol, van or car?

The answer depends first and foremost on the engine code stamped on your block — not the engine capacity or the model name alone. Two identical vehicles from the same year can carry completely different blocks depending on the market, the exact model year or the power output. It is the engine code that determines the correct reference to order.

This collection covers reconditioned engines sold on an exchange basis across a wide range: passenger cars, MPVs, SUVs and light commercial vehicles, from the 1988 model year through to recent models. The most widely represented diesel and petrol engines range from the 1.2 PureTech and 1.2 TSI through to the heavier commercial diesel units — the 2.2 TDCi, 2.3 dCi and 2.2 HDi. Among the best-covered models are the Transit, Golf, Leon, 308, Boxer, Master and Octavia, as well as popular light commercials such as the Vivaro, Trafic and Transporter.

Why the engine code takes priority over engine capacity or model name

A 2.0 TDI from a Golf VI shares no internal components with a 2.0 TDI from a Passat B8: codes CFCA, BLFB or BKFB refer to entirely different architectures, with incompatible cylinder heads, crankshafts and pistons. Equally, a 2.0 HDi in a 308 may use the DW10FUD block or the DW12RUD depending on power output and year. On commercial vehicles the same logic applies: the 2.3 dCi in the Master covers codes M9T and QJ2R, which are not interchangeable. Look up the engine code on the identification plate on the block or on your vehicle registration document before navigating to your model's page.

Diesel, petrol, commercial: engine families and what to watch out for

On the diesel side, the PSA-Ford DW10 / DW12 families (HDi, TDCi) are very widely used in passenger cars and light commercials, while Renault dCi blocks (1.5, 1.9, 2.0, 2.3) are found in everything from city cars to large vans. VAG TDI blocks (1.6, 2.0) appear across the Golf, Octavia, Leon and Passat, with very different generations depending on the code. On the petrol side, the 1.2 TSI / 1.4 TSI from the VAG group and the 1.2 PureTech from PSA have well-documented reliability histories, particularly regarding the timing chain on early production runs. Every engine is sold as a bare engine: ancillary components (turbo, alternator, starter motor, water pump) are not included and must be inspected or replaced separately at the time of fitting.

To order the correct block, navigate to your make's page and then your model's page with the engine code to hand — it is the only piece of information that removes any ambiguity between two similar references. The 2 available options — exchange and rebuilding your own unit — suit different situations depending on the condition and availability of your original block.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is an exchange engine?

It is an original engine fully rebuilt in our workshop: wear parts replaced, settings redone and bench-tested before dispatch. You get a reliable engine for far less than a new one, and you send us back your old unit (the core), which we recondition in turn — a genuine circular economy approach.

What warranty comes with a reconditioned engine?

Every part is guaranteed for up to 24 months on the part, subject to conditions. Our engines are bench-tested before dispatch, and every order comes with an invoice (VAT reclaimable for trade customers).

How do I find the right engine for my vehicle?

The easiest way: enter your number plate and we identify the exact model in seconds. You can also request an online quote — our advisers check compatibility using your registration document or the original part reference.

What are the delivery and payment terms?

Delivery throughout France and Europe, with return transport arranged for the exchange of the part. You can pay in instalments, up to 10 payments, to spread the cost.
