Which reconditioned bare engine is the exact match for my vehicle?

The answer comes down to one principle: it is the engine code stamped on the block — not the engine capacity or the quoted power output — that determines the exact reference to order. Two vehicles that look identical, same year, same fuel type, can take completely different blocks depending on the market, the production run or the trim level.

This collection of reconditioned bare engines sold on an exchange basis covers more than thirty models, from the Volkswagen Golf and the SEAT Leon to light commercials such as the Renault Master, l'Opel Vivaro or the Ford Transit. Diesel units account for the majority of the range — 1.5 dCi, 2.0 TDI, 2.0 HDi, 1.6 HDi, 2.0 dCi, 2.2 HDi, 1.7 CDTi, 1.9 TDI, 1.9 dCi, 2.3 dCi — but petrol blocks are also available: 2.0 TSI, 1.2 TSI, 1.2 PureTech, 1.4 Turbo, 1.6. Every engine is supplied bare: without ancillaries (turbo, alternator, starter motor, water pump), which is standard practice for this type of part.

Why the engine code is the only reliable reference

Take the Volkswagen Group 2.0 TDI: codes range from AZV to DTSB, covering more than fifty variants across very different generations and power outputs. The Renault 1.5 dCi alone encompasses more than fifty K9K codes, from K9K292 to K9K_896, spread across the Clio, Kangoo, Scénic, Mégane and many others. The PSA 2.2 HDi similarly runs to around forty codes (4HH, 4HJ, 4HU, 4HV, DW12RUD, DW12RUE…) depending on the generation and power output. Searching by engine capacity alone will consistently lead to the wrong identification. This code, made up of letters and numbers, appears on a plate or directly on the engine casing; it is also recorded on the V5C logbook or can be found in the service book. From there, navigate to your make and then your model page to find the reference that matches your block precisely.

Exchange or rebuild of your own block

Two purchasing options are available within this collection. Exchange applies to references held in reconditioned stock, ready for dispatch. Rebuild of your own unit applies to rare references or heavily modified blocks: your engine is returned to us, rebuilt to 0 km, and sent back to you. These two options are not interchangeable and are clearly indicated on each product page.
