Restore the full responsiveness of the 520d on your BMW Série 5

On a BMW Série 5 (E39) 520d, a turbo in good condition makes itself felt immediately at the wheel: crisp pick-up from low revs, smooth and linear power delivery, and no whistling or smoke under acceleration. Conversely, a worn turbocharger shows itself through a loss of power, an engine that struggles under load (motorway driving, towing) and sometimes a tell-tale blue smoke indicating an oil leak on the turbine side. This new turbo is designed to restore the 520d's original performance and the refined driving experience expected of this saloon.

Compatibility with the M47 D20 engine in your 520d

This new turbo is compatible with reference 700447-5009S, intended for the 520d engine producing 136 hp (100 kW), fitted with the M47 D20 (204D1) diesel engine of 1951 cm³. Before placing any order, always check the reference marked on the old turbo or on the vehicle's identification plate, as some BMW Série 5 models of this generation may have been fitted with turbo variants depending on the year of production and power output.

Exchange and warranty for your 520d

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required, but it is only collected after the new part has been delivered and fitted, so that your BMW Série 5 is not left off the road unnecessarily. The part comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.

Points to check before fitting and maintenance advice

On an M47D20 engine, the leading cause of turbo failure remains insufficient lubrication, whether due to poor-quality oil, missed oil changes, or a clogged oil filter. Before fitting the new turbo, check the oil circuit (feed and return hoses), the condition of the air filter, and the integrity of the intercooler and its hoses, which are often weakened with age on these BMW models. When starting up, prime the turbo with oil before the first engine start, and avoid running the turbo hard from cold or switching the engine off immediately after a demanding run.
