Symptoms of a worn turbo on a Mercedes CLA 220d
On the Mercedes CLA fitted with the OM654.920 diesel engine, a turbo nearing the end of its life often makes itself known through a noticeable loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise on the intake side, or blue or black exhaust smoke. An illuminated engine warning light accompanied by the engine going into limp mode should alert the driver to a possible oil leak or excessive play within the turbo. These signs point to worn bearings or inadequate lubrication, and should be diagnosed promptly before the damage worsens.
Product overview – new turbo for the Mercedes CLA
This new turbo is compatible with reference 902035-5001S, designed for the Mercedes CLA fitted with the OM654.920 engine – a 1950 cm³ diesel unit developed to deliver a strong balance of performance and fuel economy in this compact model. It restores the pressure of the intake air so that the engine delivers its original performance, particularly in terms of low-rev torque, which is heavily called upon in both urban and road driving.
Compatibility with the CLA engine
Before placing an order, we strongly recommend checking the reference number on the old turbo fitted to your Mercedes CLA, in order to confirm an exact match with your vehicle and its engine.
Exchange basis and warranty on this new turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of the old turbo is required in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, but it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your vehicle is never left off the road. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the OM654.920 engine
Before fitting the new turbo to the CLA, it is essential to check the oil circuit (hoses, feed and return lines), to ensure there are no blockages or deposits in the lines, and to inspect the condition of the air filter and intercooler. A full oil change using a quality oil that meets the manufacturer's specifications will reduce the risk of premature failure. When starting the engine for the first time, it is recommended to prime the oil circuit before the initial start-up, then to drive gently for the first few kilometres to allow the turbo to bed in correctly.
