What changes behind the wheel of a Land Cruiser 3.0 D-4D with a turbo in good condition
On a Toyota Land Cruiser fitted with the 1KD-FTV engine, a turbo in perfect working order makes itself felt immediately: crisp pick-up from low revs, smooth and linear power delivery, and no black smoke under acceleration. By contrast, a worn turbo shows itself through a gradual loss of power, an unusual whistling noise, blue or black exhaust smoke, and sometimes an illuminated engine warning light. This new turbo is designed to restore the vehicle's original performance, whether in off-road use, under load, or towing a trailer — all demands that are common on this model.
Compatibility with the Toyota Land Cruiser 3.0 D-4D
This new turbo is compatible with reference 17201-0L090, intended for the Toyota Land Cruiser fitted with the 1KD-FTV engine (3.0 D-4D, diesel, 2982 cm³). Before placing an order, we recommend checking this reference directly on the old turbo fitted to your vehicle, as several turbo variants may be fitted to closely related engine versions depending on the specification.
Exchange basis and warranty
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of your old turbo is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Land Cruiser is not left off the road. This product comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Advice before fitting and first start-up
On the 1KD-FTV, the majority of premature turbo failures stem from a lack of lubrication: insufficient engine oil quality, missed oil changes, or a clogged oil filter. Also check the condition of the air filter and intercooler, as any ingress of dust or particles can damage the turbine blades. Before fitting, inspect the oil circuit, the intake hoses, and the air intake for any leaks or blockages. On first start-up, remember to prime the turbo with oil before starting the engine, to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings and to protect the longevity of the part.
- Check engine oil quality and level
