Navara: two families of diesel engines, four power outputs and a different turbo for each

The Navara is first and foremost a working pick-up: regular towing, load-carrying, rough tracks, long distances under load. In these conditions, the turbo is subjected to thermal and mechanical stresses far greater than those of a passenger car. Degraded oil, a blocked oil filter or a clogged return circuit are enough to destroy the bearings within a few tens of thousands of kilometres. Before any replacement, it is essential to identify and correct the root cause — oil condition, intake circuit integrity, DPF fouling — otherwise the new turbo will fail just as quickly.

2.5 dCi: the YD25 engine in several variants and power outputs

The majority of diesel Navaras are based on the 2.5 dCi available in several outputs: 144, 171, 174 and 190 hp (engine codes QW25, YD25, YD25DDTi depending on the version), as well as a 4WD variant at 144 and 171 hp (codes YD25, YD25DDTi). Each power output corresponds to a distinct turbo reference: the 144 hp, 171 hp, 174 hp and 190 hp turbos are not interchangeable. Identification must be made using the engine code stamped on the block and the original turbo reference (examples: 14411EB70A to 14411EB71E for certain versions, 49189-07802 for others). Turbos for the 4WD 144 and 171 hp versions are available as reconditioned units on an exchange basis; all other 2.5 dCi variants are offered as new turbos, sold directly, with no old unit to return.

3.0 dCi: the V9X engine in three power outputs — variable geometry to watch

The 3.0 dCi (codes V9X et V9X891) is fitted to the most powerful versions at 231, 238 and 241 hp. This variable-geometry engine is sensitive to fouling of the turbo vanes, a common fault in mixed urban and road use where DPF regeneration remains incomplete. Typical symptoms are a whistling noise under acceleration, persistent black smoke and the vehicle entering limp-home mode. Turbos for these three power outputs are available new (manufacturer references 14411DK1498, 14411DY300, 14411EB300 and equivalents), sold directly. Here again, the three power outputs do not necessarily use the same reference: checking the markings on the casing of the removed turbo remains the most reliable method before placing any order.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Nissan Navara Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Nissan Navara Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
