Signs of a worn turbo on your Fiat 500 Abarth
On a Fiat 500 Abarth fitted with the 1.4 T-Jet engine, a turbo that is nearing the end of its life will often make itself known through a loss of power on acceleration, an unusual whistling noise under the bonnet, blue smoke from the exhaust indicating abnormal oil consumption, or an engine warning light accompanied by a noticeable lack of power. These symptoms, common on this turbocharged petrol engine, are generally caused by worn bearings, excessive shaft play, or a leak at the turbo's seals.
Compatibility of the new turbo with the Fiat 500
This new turbo is compatible with reference VL40, intended for Fiat 500 Abarth models fitted with the 1.4 T-Jet engine, engine code 198 A1.000. Before placing an order, it is strongly recommended that you check the reference marked on the old turbo or on the engine plate, as several turbo variants have been fitted to this engine depending on the power output and vehicle version.
Exchange and warranty
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of the old turbo is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Fiat 500 Abarth is not left off the road during the process. The part comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Advice before fitting the new turbo
Before fitting the new turbo, it is essential to check the condition of the oil circuit, hoses and air intake, as any blockage or leak in these components can cause premature failure. Pay close attention to the quality of the engine oil and ensure oil change intervals are respected, as well as checking the condition of the air filter and intercooler, which are frequently responsible for turbo failure on this type of petrol engine. When starting the engine for the first time, it is recommended to prime the turbo with oil to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings and to protect the longevity of the new part.
