Why does the turbo on the Mercedes Viano CDI fail?
On the Mercedes Viano fitted with the 2.0 CDI and 2.2 CDI engines (OM 646), the turbo is put under considerable strain in both family and commercial use — particularly during repeated short journeys or when driving under heavy load. Insufficient lubrication caused by poor-quality engine oil or missed oil changes is one of the main causes of turbo cartridge failure. A clogged air filter or a cracked intercooler can also lead to premature wear of the bearings and turbine, as can revving the engine hard before it has reached its normal operating temperature.
New Turbo for Mercedes Viano 2.0 CDI and 2.2 CDI
This new turbo is compatible with the VV14 reference, designed for the Mercedes Viano fitted with the 2.0 CDI and 2.2 CDI engines (OM 646). Before ordering, we recommend checking the reference on the data plate of your old turbo to confirm exact compatibility with your vehicle.
Exchange basis and warranty for this Viano turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required, but it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Viano is never left off the road unnecessarily. A 12-month parts warranty applies, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the Viano CDI
Before installing the new turbo, check the condition of the oil circuit, ensure the hoses are clean and that there are no air intake leaks, in order to prevent any further premature failure. When starting up, prime the circuit with clean oil before the first start to ensure the turbo bearings are lubricated immediately.
