A new turbo designed for family use in the Zafira 1.6 CDTI
The Zafira Tourer is frequently used for family journeys combining town, A-road and motorway driving, often with several passengers or a heavy load. This versatility places considerable demands on the 1.6 CDTI turbocharger, particularly during sustained full-load acceleration or short urban trips that prevent the engine oil from reaching its optimum operating temperature. A turbo in good condition is essential to maintain engine responsiveness and avoid the power losses that make themselves felt when this MPV is driven fully laden.
Turbo compatibility with the Zafira 1.6 CDTI
This new turbo is compatible with reference 54389880013, fitted to 1.6 CDTI engines in the Zafira, with engine codes B16DTH, B16DTJ, D16DTJ and D16DTH depending on the version. Before placing an order, it is strongly recommended that you check the reference printed on the old turbo or on the engine plate, as different power variants may use turbos that are similar but not strictly identical.
Exchange basis and warranty for this Zafira turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required, but it is only collected after the new unit has been delivered and fitted, so the Zafira is never left off the road. The part is covered by a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting and maintenance advice for the 1.6 CDTI
On this engine, premature turbo failure is often caused by a lubrication fault resulting from poor-quality oil, missed oil changes, or a clogged air filter allowing abrasive particles through. A damaged intercooler or cracked hoses can also disrupt boost pressure and accelerate wear. Before fitting, check the oil circuit, the condition of the hoses and the air intake, then prime the turbo with oil before the first start-up to ensure the bearings are lubricated immediately. Avoiding high revs when the engine is cold will extend the service life of the turbo on this family vehicle.
