Not sure you've found the right part?
Why does the turbo on your BMW X1 fail?
On the 2.0 petrol turbo N20B20A engine fitted to the BMW X1 (E84), the turbine spins at extremely high speed and relies entirely on flawless lubrication. The most common causes of failure are insufficient or degraded engine oil, missed oil changes, a clogged air filter allowing contaminants to reach the compressor, or a fouled intercooler disrupting the air intake. Consistently pushing the engine hard from a cold start — without allowing it to reach operating temperature — also accelerates wear on the turbo bearings.
Compatibility of the new turbo for the BMW X1
This new turbo is designed to be compatible with the 2.0-litre petrol turbo engine fitted to the BMW X1 (E84), in particular the sDrive20i, xDrive20i and xDrive28i variants equipped with engine code N20B20A. Before placing an order, it is strongly recommended that you check the reference number on the casing of your old turbo to confirm an exact match with your vehicle.
Exchange basis and warranty on this new turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: your old turbo must be returned in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your BMW X1 is not left off the road any longer than necessary. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the turbo on your BMW X1
Before fitting the new turbo, carefully inspect the oil circuit (hoses, feed and return lines) as well as the air intake and its filter, to prevent any premature contamination. Also check the condition of the intercooler. When starting up for the first time, pre-lubricate the turbo with oil before starting the engine, to ensure the bearings are immediately lubricated from the very first revolutions.
