How a healthy turbo transforms your BMW Z4
On a BMW Z4 (E89) 35i or 35is, throttle response is immediate from low revs and power builds smoothly all the way to the rev limiter. The moment a turbo starts to weaken, accelerator response turns sluggish, a whistling or whooshing noise appears, and the car loses the sharpness that defines this sporting coupé. Fitting a new turbo restores crisp acceleration, stable boost pressure and quiet engine operation.
Compatibility of the new turbo for BMW Z4
This new turbo is compatible with reference 49131-07089, intended for BMW Z4 (E89) models fitted with the 35i and 35is engines — a 2979 cm³ petrol unit known under engine code N54B30. Before placing an order, we recommend checking the reference on the data plate of your original turbo or on your old unit to confirm exact compatibility with your vehicle.
Exchange basis and warranty on this turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of your old turbo is required in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, but it is only collected after the new part has been delivered and fitted, so your BMW Z4 is never left off the road. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Advice before and after fitting the turbo
On N54B30 engines, premature turbo failure is most commonly caused by inadequate lubrication — whether through the use of unsuitable oil, oil changes left too long, or a clogged air filter disrupting the air supply. Before fitting the new turbo, check the condition of the hoses, intercooler and air intake, as well as the cleanliness of the oil circuit to avoid any contamination. When starting up for the first time, prime the oil circuit before the initial start and avoid hard acceleration during the first few kilometres, to protect the service life of your new turbo.
