Why does the Mégane 1.6 dCi 130 turbo fail?
On the Renault Mégane fitted with the R9M engine in 1.6 dCi 130 form, turbo failures are most commonly caused by a lubrication fault: old engine oil, missed service intervals or a blocked oil filter gradually wear the turbo shaft bearings. A clogged air filter or a cracked intercooler — both common on this type of turbocharged diesel — can also cause irregular boost pressure and accelerate wear on the variable geometry. Hard driving, with the engine revved hard immediately after a cold start, makes this worse on the R9M unit.
