Why does the turbo fail on the Renault Trafic 2.8 D/TD?
On Renault Trafic vans fitted with the 2.8 D/TD diesel engine (codes S9W700 and S9W702), the turbocharger operates under the demanding conditions typical of this older unit, used in both light commercial and heavy-duty applications. The most common cause of failure is inadequate lubrication of the turbo shaft, usually due to a partially blocked oil feed pipe or degraded engine oil resulting from infrequent oil changes. Bearing wear is caused in particular by a blocked oil feed pipe or poor lubrication. A clogged air filter, a damaged intercooler or poorly secured boost hoses will also accelerate premature turbo wear on this type of engine.
