Diagnosing the turbo on your Audi A5 2.0 TDI before any replacement

Before ordering a new turbo for your Audi A5, it is essential to confirm that the fault lies with the turbocharger itself and not with another component in the intake or exhaust circuit. On the A5's 2.0 TDI 177 hp engine, the first warning signs to look out for are a noticeable loss of power under acceleration, abnormal exhaust smoke (blue smoke indicating oil consumption, or black smoke indicating over-fuelling), and an engine warning light accompanied by a turbo under-boost fault code. Checking for turbo noise under acceleration (a high-pitched whine) and inspecting the variable geometry, which is often seized due to carbon build-up, will help to guide the diagnosis before confirming that replacement is necessary.

New turbo compatible with Audi A5 2.0 TDI 177 (CGLC)

This new turbo is compatible with reference 818987-5001S and is intended for Audi A5 models fitted with the 2.0 TDI 177 hp engine, engine code CGLC. Before placing your order, please check the reference number on your old turbo or on your vehicle's engine plate to confirm exact compatibility with your Audi A5.

Exchange basis and warranty for this Audi A5 turbo

This turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of your old turbo is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Audi A5 is not left off the road during the process. This new turbo comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, up to 10 instalments.

Fitting advice for the turbo on your Audi A5 2.0 TDI

On the CGLC engine, premature turbo failure is frequently caused by insufficient lubrication, incorrect oil grade, or missed oil changes, as well as a blocked air filter or a cracked intercooler allowing contaminants through. Before fitting, check the oil circuit (hoses and return line) and the air intake to rule out any contamination of the new turbo. When starting the engine for the first time after fitting, prime the turbo with oil before cranking the engine, to ensure the bearings are immediately lubricated.
