Symptoms of a failing turbo on the Audi A4 2.0 TDI 177 CV
On the Audi A4 fitted with the 2.0 TDI 177 CV engine, a turbocharger that is nearing the end of its life often makes itself known through a gradual loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise from the intake or exhaust side, thick blue or black smoke from the exhaust, and sometimes the engine warning light coming on alongside a boost-related fault code. Some drivers also notice excessive engine oil consumption or an unstable idle, which are signs that the turbo's bearings or seals are beginning to let oil through.
A new turbo for your Audi A4
This new turbo is compatible with reference 818987-5001S and is a direct replacement for the original turbocharger fitted to the Audi A4 2.0 TDI 177 CV. Before placing an order, it is essential to check the exact reference printed on your old turbo, as certain versions of the A4 may be fitted with different turbos depending on the power output and year of manufacture.
Engine compatibility
This turbo is designed for the 2.0 TDI 177 CV engine, with a capacity of 1968 cm³, associated with engine code CGLC. We strongly recommend cross-checking this reference against the one on your vehicle's original turbo before ordering, to rule out any risk of compatibility error.

Exchange basis and warranty
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbocharger is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted to your Audi A4, so your vehicle is not left off the road during the process. This turbo comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional.
Advice before fitting on your A4
Before installing this turbo, check the condition of the oil circuit (hoses, feed and return lines), the cleanliness of the air filter, and the integrity of the intercooler, as a fault in any of these components can cause premature failure of the new unit. A full oil change using oil that meets the manufacturer's specifications is essential, as is priming the oil circuit before the first start-up to ensure the bearings are lubricated immediately. Allowing the engine to warm up and cool down gradually will also help extend the life of the turbocharger.
- Check oil hoses and connections before fitting
- Inspect the air filter and air intake
- Prime the oil circuit before starting the engine
- Drive gently, especially after a hard run
