The Audi A4 turbo – a component under daily strain
The Audi A4 fitted with a 1.9 TDI 130 or 2.0 TDI 136/140 engine is frequently used for long road and motorway journeys, as well as more urban driving where idling and short trips are common. This mixed driving style places considerable stress on the turbocharger – particularly when the engine is revved after a prolonged period at idle – which can accelerate wear on the bearings and variable-geometry vanes if servicing is not kept up to date.
Compatibility of the new turbo for the Audi A4
This new turbo is compatible with reference 717858-5010S and fits the following Audi A4 models according to available manufacturer data: the 1.9 TDI 130 with engine codes AVF and AWX, and the 2.0 TDI 136 and 140 with engine codes BLB and BPW. Before placing an order, we recommend checking the reference printed on your old turbo or on the vehicle's identification plate to confirm exact compatibility with your engine.
Exchange basis and warranty for this Audi A4 turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required; however, it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted to your Audi A4, so your vehicle is never left off the road. It comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for your A4 TDI turbo
On the 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines of the Audi A4, premature turbo failure is often caused by insufficient lubrication, poor-quality oil, oil that has not been changed at the recommended intervals, or a clogged air filter disrupting the air intake. Before fitting, carefully inspect the oil circuit, the condition of the vacuum and air hoses, and the airtightness of the air intake and intercooler. When starting the engine for the first time, make sure to prime the new turbo with oil to ensure correct lubrication from the very first engine revolutions.
