Identifying the correct turbo reference for your MINI Cooper
Before placing any order, it is essential to check the exact reference printed on the identification plate of your old turbo, as several versions of turbocharger have been fitted to the diesel engines of the MINI Cooper depending on the year and power output. This new turbo is compatible with the main reference 54409880024 as well as all equivalent references listed on this page. A careful check of the old unit, or of the vehicle registration document, will help you avoid any compatibility errors before fitting.
MINI Cooper engines covered by this turbo
This new turbo is designed for the 2.0-litre diesel engines of the MINI Cooper, in particular the Cooper D and Cooper SD variants fitted with engine codes B47C20A and B47C20B. These 2.0 diesel direct-injection common-rail units, developed by BMW, are fitted to the MINI on this generation and require a reliable turbocharger to maintain their performance and everyday driving refinement. If you are unsure whether your engine matches this turbo, always compare the reference engraved on your original part with those listed on this page.
Exchange basis and warranty for this MINI Cooper turbo
This turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so that your MINI Cooper is not left off the road during the process. The part is covered by a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment for your order can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Advice before and after fitting on the B47 engine
On the B47 diesel engines of the MINI Cooper, premature turbo failure is most commonly caused by a lubrication fault resulting from oil changes being left too long, the use of oil that does not meet manufacturer specifications, or a gradual build-up of deposits in the oil passages. Before fitting the new turbo, it is recommended that you check the condition of the oil circuit, the intake hoses and air intake, as well as the cleanliness of the intercooler, to avoid any contamination of the new part. Driving too hard on a cold engine, or switching the engine off immediately after sustained hard use, can also weaken the turbocharger over time. When starting up for the first time, priming the turbo with oil before the initial start ensures correct lubrication of the bearings from the very first engine revolutions.
