Premature turbo failure on this engine is most commonly caused by insufficient lubrication, poor-quality engine oil, missed oil changes, a clogged air filter, or a cracked intercooler allowing contaminants through. Before fitting, check the oil circuit (hoses, feed and return lines), the air intake, and the condition of the intercooler. When starting up, make sure to prime the turbo with oil before the first start, then drive gently for the first few kilometres to protect the new unit.
