What changes behind the wheel of your Renault Master with a healthy turbo
On a Renault Master used daily for carrying loads or passengers, even the slightest loss of power under acceleration or a turbo struggling to build boost is felt immediately – especially under load or on a hill. With a new, fully restored turbo, throttle response becomes crisp again, exhaust smoke disappears, and the engine regains its usual flexibility from low revs – a particularly welcome improvement on a van that is often running at full capacity.
Compatibility of the new turbo for the Renault Master 2.3 dCi
This new turbo is compatible with reference 846016-5002S, a high-pressure turbocharger fitted to the two-stage sequential boost system on the Renault Master with the 2.3 dCi engine, M9T unit, a 2298 cm³ diesel. Before ordering, it is essential to check that the reference number on your old turbo matches one of the references listed on this page, as several versions of the high-pressure turbo were fitted to this engine depending on the year of manufacture.
Exchange basis and warranty for this Renault Master turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of your old turbo is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, but it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Renault Master is never left off the road. The turbo is covered by a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Common causes of failure and fitting advice for the M9T engine
On the M9T engine fitted with a two-stage boost system, failure of the high-pressure turbo is most commonly caused by a lubrication fault – typically insufficient oil quality, missed oil changes, or a clogged oil filter. A blocked air filter or a damaged intercooler can also cause premature wear by disrupting airflow to the turbine. Before fitting, check the condition of the oil circuit, the lubrication pipes, and the air intake, and retrieve the spacer located between the exhaust housings of the old turbo to refit it on the new one. On first start-up, priming the turbo with oil is recommended to ensure immediate lubrication before the engine is first revved.
