Signs of a failing turbo on your Opel Astra 1.9 CDTI

On the Opel Astra fitted with the 1.9 CDTI engine, a turbo nearing the end of its life typically shows itself through a noticeable loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise on the air intake side, blue or black exhaust smoke, and sometimes an engine warning light accompanied by a fault code related to boost pressure. Excessive oil consumption or hesitation during rev build-up are also common signs of excessive play within the turbo or a failure of the variable geometry system specific to this engine.

Exchange basis and warranty on this Astra turbo

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required, but it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Astra is not left off the road. Fitting advice to protect your new turbo

On the 1.9 CDTI engine, turbo longevity depends greatly on the quality and frequency of engine oil changes, the condition of the air filter and the integrity of the intercooler, as well as avoiding immediate high revs after a cold start. Before fitting, check the oil circuit, hoses and air intake to rule out any contamination or leaks that could damage the new turbo. When starting up for the first time, make sure the oil circuit is properly primed before running the engine, to ensure immediate lubrication of the turbocharger.
