A new turbo designed for real-world use on the Audi A3 2.0 TSI
The Audi A3 fitted with the 2.0 TSI engine is commonly used for mixed driving — frequent stop-start urban journeys as well as fast-road runs where the engine is pushed at high revs. This constant switch between gentle town driving and hard acceleration on the motorway places considerable demands on the turbocharger, particularly during sharp acceleration after extended idling. Rigorous maintenance of the oil circuit is therefore essential to preserve the longevity of this component on this model.
Compatibility of the new turbo with the Audi A3
This new turbo is compatible with reference 9VA29, intended for Audi A3 models fitted with the 2.0 TSI petrol engine, corresponding to engine codes DNVB and DYWA. Before placing an order, it is recommended that you check the reference shown on the identification plate of the old turbo or in the vehicle documentation, to confirm that it matches your engine specification exactly.
Exchange basis and warranty on this new turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so that the vehicle is off the road for as short a time as possible. This new turbo comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Symptoms and common causes of failure on the 2.0 TSI engine
On this engine, a loss of power, an unusual whistling noise, exhaust smoke or abnormal oil consumption may indicate turbocharger wear. The most common causes of failure are linked to insufficient lubrication, unsuitable oil quality or missed oil-change intervals, as well as a clogged air filter or a faulty intercooler restricting the supply of clean air to the turbo.
Advice before fitting the new turbo
- Check the condition of the oil circuit (hoses, feed and return lines) before installation
- Check the air intake for leaks and ensure the air filter is not clogged
- Pre-lubricate the turbo with oil before starting the engine for the first time
- Drive gently for the first few kilometres to allow the temperature to rise gradually
