How a healthy turbo transforms your BMW X1
On a BMW X1 (E84) fitted with a 2.0 Diesel engine, a turbo in good condition makes itself felt immediately: crisp acceleration from low revs, smooth power delivery on the road and a stable idle with no juddering or whistling. A worn turbo, by contrast, shows up as a gradual loss of power, a high-pitched whistle under acceleration, exhaust smoke and sometimes an illuminated engine warning light. Fitting a new turbo compatible with reference 9VB01 restores the vehicle's original performance, whether in town or on the motorway.
Compatibility with BMW X1 engines
This new turbo is compatible with BMW X1 (E84) models fitted with the 16d 116 ch, 18d 136 ch and 18d 143 ch engines — all 1995 cm³ diesel units associated with engine codes N47D20A and N47D20C. Before placing an order, it is strongly recommended that you check the exact reference printed on the old turbo, as several turbocharger variants may have been fitted depending on the version and production period of the vehicle.
Exchange basis and warranty for this BMW X1 turbo
This turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your BMW X1 is never left off the road unnecessarily. This new turbo comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the BMW X1 16d/18d turbo
On the N47D20A and N47D20C engines of the X1, turbo longevity depends heavily on the quality and frequency of engine oil changes, as well as the condition of the air filter and intercooler. Revving the engine hard from cold, or switching off immediately after a hard run, accelerates wear on the turbo bearings. Before fitting, it is essential to check the oil circuit (hoses and return pipe) for any blockage or carbon build-up, and to inspect the air intake and heat exchanger. When starting up, it is recommended to prime the turbo with oil before the first engine start, to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings and prevent any dry running.
