Signs of a worn turbo on the Peugeot 208 1.5 BlueHDi
On the Peugeot 208 fitted with the 1.5 BlueHDi engine, a turbo nearing the end of its life typically shows itself through a loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise from under the bonnet, blue or black smoke from the exhaust, and the engine warning light coming on. Excessive fuel consumption or a sluggish feel to the drive — particularly when pulling away or overtaking — are also tell-tale signs that should prompt the driver to act before the problem gets worse.

Advice before and after fitting
On a 1.5 BlueHDi engine, turbo longevity depends greatly on the quality and frequency of engine oil changes, the condition of the air filter, and the integrity of the intercooler. Aggressive driving, revving the engine hard without a warm-up period, or switching the engine off immediately after a motorway run can all accelerate turbocharger wear. Before fitting, check the oil circuit, the condition of the hoses, and the cleanliness of the air intake to avoid any contamination of the new turbo. When starting up for the first time, prime the oil circuit to ensure immediate lubrication and protect the longevity of the part.
