Why does the turbo on your SEAT Leon 2.0 TDI 140 fail?

On the SEAT Leon fitted with the 2.0 TDI 140 engine, the CFFB and CJAA units place considerable strain on the turbocharger — particularly during repeated short journeys or rapid acceleration from a cold start. Engine oil that has degraded, not been changed at the recommended interval, or is of an unsuitable grade will gradually clog the lubrication channels of the central shaft, causing excessive play, whistling noises and ultimately a failure. A blocked air filter or a cracked intercooler allows impurities through or upsets the air pressure balance, accelerating wear on the turbine blades. Switching the engine off immediately after sustained hard driving, without allowing it to cool down, also causes premature wear to the turbo bearings.
