Every 6-speed manual gearbox is fully stripped, cleaned and inspected before reassembly. Gears, synchros, bearings and seals are replaced according to the wear found, then the gearbox is rebuilt to manufacturer tolerances and bench-tested before dispatch. On an NV400 used daily for deliveries or on site, several warning signs point to gearbox wear: increasingly stiff gear changes, crunching in 2nd or 3rd gear, juddering under acceleration, vibrations through the gear lever, a grinding noise in neutral, or an oil leak at the casing. A gear that jumps out on its own while driving is also a clear sign of advanced internal wear.
Exchange basis: the reconditioned gearbox is delivered before the old unit is returned
Under this exchange arrangement, the reconditioned gearbox is dispatched first, without waiting for the old unit to be collected. The vehicle's original casing is only taken back after delivery and fitting, so the vehicle is not left off the road during the exchange.
