Diagnosing the turbo before replacing it on a Mercedes Classe E
Before considering a turbocharger replacement on your Mercedes Classe E (W211), a thorough diagnosis is strongly recommended. Start by checking the engine oil level and quality, the condition of the air filter, and whether there are any leaks on the boost hoses or intercooler. Running a fault-code scan with a diagnostic tool will often confirm a loss of boost pressure before you conclude that the turbo itself has failed. Only once these secondary causes have been ruled out should a turbo replacement be considered.
Overview of the new turbo for the Classe E (W211)
This new turbo is compatible with reference 742693-5004S, designed for the diesel engines fitted to the Mercedes Classe E (W211) with 200 CDI and 220 CDI units. It provides the engine with the air boost needed to deliver the power and torque expected from this model, while keeping fuel consumption in check.
Compatibility with 200 CDI and 220 CDI engines
This new turbo is suitable for Mercedes Classe E (W211) models fitted with 200 CDI and 220 CDI engines, covering engine codes OM 611.962, OM 646.951, OM 646.961, OM 646.962, OM 646.963 and OM 646.966. Before placing an order, please check the reference shown on the data plate of your old turbo to confirm exact compatibility with your vehicle.
Exchange basis and warranty
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Mercedes Classe E is never left off the road. A 12-month parts warranty applies, subject to fitting being carried out by a professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Tips for a successful fit on your Classe E
On the OM646 engines fitted to the Classe E, the most common causes of turbo failure are insufficient lubrication, poor-quality engine oil or oil that has not been changed at the recommended intervals, a clogged air filter, or a damaged intercooler. Before fitting the new turbo, check the oil circuit, the condition of the hoses, and the cleanliness of the air intake. When starting the engine for the first time, make sure to prime the oil circuit to ensure the turbo bearings are lubricated immediately and to prevent premature wear.
