The turbo on the Altea changed generation between the 1.9 TDI and the successive 2.0 TDI engines

The Altea was produced alongside two clearly distinct families of diesel engines. The earliest versions received the 1.9 TDI in its 90 and 105 hp variants — engine codes BJB, BKC, BXE, BXF, BXJ, AVQ, BRU — a variable-geometry engine whose turbos cover a wide range of manufacturer references (038253…). Then came the 2.0 TDI, initially in 136 and 140 hp form with codes AZV, BKD, BKP (references 03G253…), then in 170 hp form with codes CFFA, CFFB, CBBB and CFHC (references 03L253…). These three engine generations do not share their turbos: a 038253 reference does not fit a 2.0 TDI, and vice versa.

Why the engine code is the only reliable criterion

On the 2.0 TDI, the stated power output alone is not enough to identify the correct turbo: a 140 hp unit may be a BKD or a CFHC — two codes that do not share the same reference. Likewise, the 170 hp version comes in CFFA, CFFB and CBBB variants, each potentially corresponding to a different reference. The engine code, stamped on the engine identification plate, is the essential starting point before placing any order.

Symptoms and causes to check before fitting

On both the 1.9 TDI and the 2.0 TDI, the signs of a failing turbo are the same: abnormal whistling, blue or black exhaust smoke, progressive loss of power, or the vehicle entering limp-home mode. The most common causes are insufficient lubrication (degraded oil, blocked oil feed pipe), ingestion of a foreign body, or a clogged intake circuit. Fitting a new turbo without addressing the root cause will lead to a second failure in short order. All turbos listed here are new parts, sold with no old unit to return.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your SEAT Altea Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my SEAT Altea Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
