17 engine codes on the diesel Toledo: two decades of turbos with nothing in common

From the first-generation naturally aspirated 1.9 TD to the 2.0 TDI of the final series, the diesel Toledo covers a remarkably varied range of turbos. Between the AAZ block (1.9 TD 75 hp, fixed-geometry with wastegate) and the BJB, BKC, BXE codes of the last-generation 1.9 TDI 90 and 105 hp (variable geometry), the turbo architectures share absolutely no common ground. Identifying the correct part therefore requires knowing the engine code stamped on the block — not just the engine capacity or the quoted power output.

Distinct turbo families by generation and power output

The 17 engine codes in the Toledo file fall into several non-overlapping families. The mid-range engines illustrate the pitfall perfectly: AFN (1.9 TDI 110 hp), AHF, AJM, ASV, AUY (1.9 TDI 110/115 hp) and ASZ (1.9 TDI 130 hp) denote similar power outputs yet each receives a different variable-geometry turbo, with OEM references that do not cross over. The 1.9 TDI 150 hp (code ARL) and the 2.0 TDI 136 hp (code AZV) are each a standalone case: their turbo is specific and cannot be substituted for that of a 1.9 TDI of similar power. Codes AGR, ALH (1.9 TDI 90 hp, earlier generation) and BLS, BRU, BXF (1.9 TDI 90/105 hp, later generation) cover the same power band yet use turbos that are not interchangeable with one another.

Failure causes and points to check before replacement

On the variable-geometry turbos fitted to the majority of these engines, fouling of the turbine vanes and seizure of the actuator are the most common failures. Degraded oil or overdue service intervals attack the bearings; a blocked diesel particulate filter creates back-pressure that accelerates seal wear. Common symptoms include: whistling under load, blue or black smoke, and a marked loss of power with the engine entering limp-home mode. Before any replacement, the root cause must be addressed — lubrication circuit, EGR, DPF — otherwise the new part risks failing just as quickly. All turbos listed on this page are new turbos, sold as a straightforward purchase, conforming to original OEM references.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your SEAT Toledo Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my SEAT Toledo Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.

Engine codes covered: BJB, BKC, BXE, AGR, ALH, AZV, AHF, ASV, AUY, AJM, BLS, BXF, BRU, AFN, ARL, ASZ, AAZ
