Which engine code matches which turbo on the Audi Q3?

On the Audi Q3, the engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable way to identify the correct turbo. Five engines are covered here — two petrol and three diesel — each with its own codes and its own manufacturer references. A single 2.0 TDI 190 hp can correspond to engine codes DDAA, DFCA or DFHA, shared across both the quattro and front-wheel-drive variants; conversely, the 2.0 TDI quattro 184 hp covers a broader family: CUNA, CUPA, CUWA, CYLA, DFMA, DFUA, DGCA, DJGA. Confusing these two diesels of similar output leads to ordering an incompatible reference.

Petrol engine codes: 1.4 TFSI / TSI and 2.0 TFSI

The 1.4 TFSI / TSI is the most common engine in the entry-level Q3. It covers five codes: CHPA, CHPB, CPTA, CZDA, CZEA. The variety of codes reflects calibration and emissions updates over the Q3's production run; the associated turbo is not identical from one code to the next, which is why checking precisely matters. The manufacturer references for this engine form a lengthy list (04E145703, 04E145704, 04E145721 and their V/X variants in particular): several suffixes coexist for the same code, as Audi revised the specifications mid-production. The 2.0 TFSI, codes DNNA and DNVB, uses a separate turbo, referenced in particular as 9VA29 or 06Q145701C.

Diesel turbos: variable geometry and common causes of failure

The Q3's 2.0 TDI engines are fitted with variable-geometry turbos. The variable-geometry vanes are exposed to fouling from the EGR circuit and the DPF; progressive build-up results in a characteristic whistling noise, sluggish power delivery or the vehicle entering limp mode before any outright mechanical failure occurs. Insufficient lubrication — degraded oil or a blocked turbo oil feed pipe — remains the leading cause of bearing failure. Before any replacement, it is essential to identify and rectify the root cause: oil circuit blockage, EGR fault or a clogged DPF; fitting a new turbo without this diagnosis significantly reduces its service life. All turbos listed on this page are new, sold with no old unit to return.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Audi Q3 Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Audi Q3 Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
