Why does the turbo fail on the Ford C-Max 1.8 TDCi 115?

On the Ford C-Max fitted with the KKDA diesel engine, the turbocharger operates in a demanding environment: urban stop-start driving mixed with motorway runs, frequent cold starts, and constant use of the variable geometry. The most common causes of failure are insufficient lubrication due to low-quality oil or infrequent oil changes, a clogged air filter disrupting the intake, a cracked intercooler allowing contaminants through, or aggressive driving that puts the turbo under load immediately from a cold start.
