On the Ford C-Max diesel, the engine code is the only reference that matters when identifying the correct turbo

The 1.6 TDCi is a perfect example of the pitfall: at the same engine capacity, the C-Max can be fitted with radically different turbos depending on the engine code stamped on the block. The code DV6ATED4 (1.6 TDCi 90) corresponds to a specific reference — for example 49173-07503 or its equivalents — which does not overlap with the codes HHJA / HHUB (also at 90 hp), which refer to a different family of references such as 49S31-05210 or 49131-05252. Grouping these two variants of the 1.6 TDCi 90 under a single part would be a fitting error.

1.6 TDCi and 1.8 TDCi: two families, separate reference sets

The 1.8 TDCi 115 is based on the codes FFWA, KKDA and KKDB and uses Ford references from the 6G9Q / 7G9Q-6K682 series (e.g. 758532-5019S, 763647-5021S). The third variant of the 1.6 TDCi covers 90, 101 and 110 hp simultaneously via the codes G8DA, G8DB, G8DC, HHDA, HHDB and MTDA — a multi-output configuration linked to the 3M5Q and 4M5Q-6K682 series, with a particularly extensive list of equivalent references. Confusing the 3M5Q series with the 4M5Q series leads to a geometric incompatibility.

Key checks before replacement

The turbos listed on this page are all new parts sold without exchange of the old unit. On TDCi engines of this generation, turbo failure is frequently linked to poor lubrication — contaminated oil, a blocked oil feed circuit — or a fouled intake system. Fitting a new turbo without diagnosing the root cause of the failure (oil pressure, particulate filter condition, hose integrity) risks a rapid recurrence. The classic symptoms — whistling under acceleration, limp-home mode, exhaust smoke — warrant a thorough investigation before placing any order.
