Does your engine code correspond to a 5- or 6-speed gearbox on the C-Max?

On the C-Max (2003–2019), the engine code stamped on the block is the essential starting point: two gearbox ratios coexist depending on the engine, and a single engine capacity can conceal several generations. The 1.6 TDCi is the only case where both configurations exist: codes G8DA, HHDA correspond to versions fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox, whilst T1DA and T3DA come with a 6-speed manual. These four codes do not share the same gearbox: checking the code is essential before placing any order.

Petrol: three families of codes, all 6-speed

On the petrol side, a 6-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard throughout. The 1.6 naturally aspirated covers codes HWDA, HXDA and SIDA; the 1.6 EcoBoost covers codes JQDA and JQDB; and the 1.0 EcoBoost covers codes M1DA, M1DD, M2DA, SFJA and SFJB. Despite the same engine capacity being shown for both EcoBoost variants, the blocks are different and their gearboxes are not interchangeable: the 1.0 and the 1.6 do not share the same casing or the same mounting points.

1.5 TDCi and 1.8: distinct codes that must not be mixed up

The 1.5 TDCi (codes XWDA, XWDB, XWDC, XWDD) is a more recent C-Max engine, fitted exclusively with a 6-speed gearbox. The 1.8 (codes QQDA, QQDB) is the only petrol block in this range to be fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Neither of these two engines shares any interchangeable gearbox with the other references in the C-Max catalogue, even where the number of speeds matches.
