Is your Ford S-Max engine code one of QXWA, TXWA, UFWA, AOBC or T1WA?

On the S-Max produced between 2006 and 2014, it is the engine code — visible on the manufacturer's plate or in the technical documentation — that determines which reconditioned gearbox matches the vehicle. Three engines are covered here, each with its own codes and its own gearbox.

Diesel: two families — 2.0 TDCi and 1.6 TDCi — two distinct gearboxes

The 2.0 TDCi covers four codes: QXWA, QXWB, TXWA and UFWA. All receive a 6-speed manual gearbox, but gearbox references are not interchangeable from one code to another: confirming the code is essential before placing any order. The 1.6 TDCi, identified by the code T1WA, is also paired with a 6-speed manual, but from a different family — do not confuse the two despite the identical number of gears.

2.0 petrol: four codes for a 5-speed manual

The petrol 2.0 block comes in the codes AOBC, AOWA, AOWB and TNWA. This is the only engine on this page to receive a 5-speed manual gearbox — an immediate distinguishing factor if the code is illegible. Here again, the exact code determines the precise gearbox reference to select from those available (examples: AG9R-7002-UCF, 6G9R-7002-AC, BG9R7002HCB).
