Ford Mondeo Gearbox: from the 5-speed petrol to the 6-speed diesel (2007–2015)

On this generation of Mondeo, the transmission is exclusively manual — no automatic, automated manual or dual-clutch gearbox is offered in this collection. The real dividing line lies elsewhere: between the 5-speed gearbox reserved for the 1.8 petrol and the 6-speed gearbox fitted to the 2.0 TDCi and the 1.6 EcoBoost. This is no minor detail: the two families are mechanically distinct and are not interchangeable.

2.0 TDCi: the most widely represented engine, with five engine codes

The 2.0 TDCi diesel accounts for the majority of available references. It comes in five engine codes — KLBA, QXBA, QXBB, UFBA, UFBB — corresponding to different power variants and production years. All are fitted with a 6-speed manual gearbox, but gearbox references can vary depending on the code: before placing any order, the engine code stamped on the block (not just the engine capacity) is the only reliable identifier. References such as DG9R-7002-KCB, BG9R-7002-ECB or 4S7R-7002-CB illustrate this diversity within a single engine family.

1.6 EcoBoost and 1.8: two identification cases not to be confused

The 1.6 EcoBoost (codes JQMA, JQMB, JTBA, JTBB) also receives a 6-speed gearbox, but from a different family to that of the TDCi. The 1.8 petrol (codes CFBA, CGBA) is the only one to receive a 5-speed gearbox. On Mondeos produced between 2007 and 2015, the exact generation of the vehicle and the engine code are therefore the two parameters that must always be cross-referenced to confirm compatibility — particularly on the diesel, where codes UFBA and UFBB correspond to late variants that do not necessarily accept the references from the early production years.
