Reconditioned Ford Ecosport Gearbox

The 2014–2017 EcoSport does not use the same gearbox across all engines or all model years

The question most buyers ask is straightforward: which gearbox fits my EcoSport exactly? The answer depends on the engine code stamped on the block, not simply on the engine capacity or the model year. Over the 2014–2017 period covered here, two engines are involved — the 1.0 EcoBoost petrol and the 1.5 TDCi diesel — and they share no gearbox whatsoever.

1.0 EcoBoost: codes M1JC and M1JJ, 5- or 6-speed gearboxes

This is the most common engine in the range, with references available in both 5-speed manual and 6-speed manual. The critical point: codes M1JC and M1JJ do not necessarily take the same gearbox. Before ordering, it is essential to check the engine code on the block itself and cross-reference it with the Ford reference of the original gearbox (examples of references found within this scope: GN1R-7002-AFJ, GN1R7002AFC, GN1R7002AFH, GN1R7002AFG, GN1R7002AFD). An identification error will result in a mounting problem or an incompatible axle ratio.

1.5 TDCi: codes UGJC and XVJD, 5-speed gearbox only

The diesel engine in this generation of EcoSport is exclusively paired with a 5-speed manual. Two engine codes are documented in the file — UGJC and XVJD — each with distinct gearbox references (CN1R-7002-PD, CN1R-7002-AE, CN1R7002AD). Even though the 5-speed gearbox is shared with certain entry-level EcoBoost variants, the bell housings and gear selector linkages differ: a gearbox from a petrol block cannot be fitted to the TDCi without strict cross-referencing of Ford part numbers.
