Why does the turbo on the Ford Tourneo 1.8 TDCi 110 ch wear out prematurely?
On the engines fitted to the Ford Tourneo 1.8 TDCi 110 ch, the turbocharger is put under considerable strain during stop-start urban driving, which is typical of the way this vehicle is used as a family or light commercial vehicle. Using the wrong grade of engine oil, or leaving oil changes too long, causes a build-up of deposits in the turbo's oil feed lines, leading to insufficient lubrication of the bearings. A blocked air filter or a cracked intake hose can also allow contaminated air into the system, accelerating wear on the compressor wheel. Finally, driving hard from cold or switching the engine off immediately after sustained hard use — without allowing a cooling-down period — puts additional stress on the turbo in these engines.

Fitting advice for the Tourneo 1.8 TDCi turbo
Before fitting this new turbo to your Ford Tourneo, check the condition of the oil circuit (hoses, feed and return lines) and make sure the air intake is clean, to prevent premature contamination of the new turbocharger. Also inspect the intercooler and air filter, as both have a direct bearing on the longevity of the turbo in this engine. On first start-up, prime the oil circuit before starting the engine to ensure the bearings are lubricated immediately from the very first revolutions.
