On a Mercedes Classe A fitted with the 1.5 CDI/d engine, a properly functioning turbo makes itself felt immediately: crisper pick-up from low revs, no flat spot under acceleration, and a stable idle with no suspicious exhaust smoke. Conversely, a gradual loss of power, an unusual whistling from under the bonnet, blue or black exhaust smoke, or the engine warning light coming on are all signs that should alert the driver of a Classe A W176 to the condition of their turbocharger.

New turbo for the Mercedes Classe A 1.5 CDI/d

This new turbo is compatible with reference 16359880029 and is intended for Mercedes Classe A (W176) vehicles fitted with the 1.5-litre diesel engine, known under the code OM607 at Mercedes (derived from the K9K block). This engine is found notably in the A 160 CDI, A 160 d, A 180 CDI and A 180 d variants. Before placing an order, it is strongly recommended that you check the reference printed directly on your old turbo, as several closely related variants may exist depending on the exact version of the vehicle and the engine's year of manufacture.

Exchange basis and warranty

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted to your Classe A, so that your vehicle is not left off the road during the process. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over up to 10 instalments.

Advice before fitting to the OM607 engine

On this widely used 1.5 CDI/d engine, turbo failure most commonly results from insufficient lubrication caused by poor-quality oil, missed oil changes, or a clogged air filter allowing contaminants to reach the compressor. A damaged intercooler or deteriorated hoses can also cause excessive pressure that is harmful to the rotating assembly.

• Check the condition and cleanliness of the oil circuit before fitting
• Inspect the hoses and air intake for any leaks or blockages
• Pre-lubricate the turbo with oil before the first start
• Drive gently at first – avoid pushing a cold engine hard or switching off the ignition immediately after sustained use
