The engine code stamped on the Peugeot block determines the exact part to order

On Peugeot vehicles, the same model and the same engine capacity can accommodate very different blocks or gearboxes depending on the year of manufacture. The engine code is the only piece of information that removes any ambiguity. A 1.6 HDi in a 308 may correspond to the 9HX (DV6ATED4), the 9HP (DV6DTED) or the 9HW (DV6BTED4): three variants of the DV6 family, each with distinct specifications and gearbox pairings. The same logic applies to the 2.0 HDi: codes RHY, DW10FC (AHH) and DW10FE (AHK) or indeed DW10CTED4 (RHE) span generations ranging from the mid-1990s through to the 2010s, with internal architectures that bear no direct relation to one another.

Vans and large diesels: specific code families

The Boxer, Expert and Partner account for a significant share of the catalogue, covered by the 2.0 HDi, 2.2 HDi, 2.5 HDi and 2.8 HDi families. Codes 4HV, 4HU, 4HG, 4HH, 4HK, 4HN and DW12RUD / DW12RUE refer to blocks and gearboxes specific to light commercial vehicles, which are incompatible with saloon car engines of similar capacity. On the Boxer in particular, the associated gearbox depends on the exact code: 4HU and 4HV do not share the same transmission pairing.

Petrol engines: PureTech and the older TU families

On the petrol side, the range covers two clearly distinct eras. Codes NFU (TU5JP4) and NFZ (TU5JP) belong to the TU families fitted to the 206, 207 and 307 up to the early 2010s, paired with 5-speed manual gearboxes. The 1.2 PureTech falls under code EB0 (ZMZ), found on the 208, 2008 and 308 from the mid-2010s onwards, with an ETG6 automated manual gearbox sold without the actuator. The 1.6 THP, referenced as EB2F (HMZ), is fitted to the 308 and 508 and shares very few components with naturally aspirated blocks of the same capacity. Locating the code on the engine before placing any order remains an essential step, regardless of the engine type.
