Which reconditioned gearbox fits my vehicle, from over 20 transmission types and 15 main engine families?

The answer comes down to three criteria: the make and model, the year of manufacture, and — most importantly — the engine code stamped on the block. The same engine capacity — for example the 2.0 TDI from the Volkswagen group — can correspond to dozens of different codes (AZV, BKD, CAGA, CLCB, CUAA, DFFA…), each matched to a distinct exchange gearbox. Mixing up two codes means ordering the wrong part.

Manual, DSG, automated: very different families

The catalogue covers all the main transmission families: 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes (the most common, fitted to virtually all the diesel and petrol models in this guide), DSG 6 and DSG 7 gearboxes (dual-clutch, supplied with a new dual-clutch assembly but without the mechatronic unit), and automated manual gearboxes — Dualogic, Easytronic, Quickshift, SensoDrive, BMP6, ETG6, MTA, DDCT — supplied without the actuator or robot unit. These distinctions are technical and the units are not interchangeable: a vehicle fitted with an Easytronic cannot accept a standard manual gearbox without mechanical adaptation.

Identification pitfalls to be aware of before browsing by make

Thirty models are listed in this catalogue, from the Golf and the A3 to heavy commercial vehicles such as the Master, the Transit, and the Ducato. For any given model, several generations may coexist with gearboxes that are incompatible with one another. The Renault 1.5 dCi is a prime example of this pitfall: the K9K family encompasses over forty engine code variants (K9K 700, K9K 802, K9K 872, K9K894…), each of which may correspond to a different gearbox depending on the year and power output. The same logic applies to Volkswagen with the 1.9 TDI, which spans codes from AFN to BXF across vehicles produced between 1995 and 2010. The first step is therefore to note down the engine code — found on the engine identification plate or in the vehicle registration document — before selecting the make and then the model page. For certain vehicles, EDEN BOITES also offers the option of rebuilding your own unit as an alternative to the standard exchange: the two purchasing options suit different situations and are not interchangeable.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is an exchange gearbox?

It is an original gearbox fully rebuilt in our workshop: wear parts replaced, settings redone and bench-tested before dispatch. You get a reliable gearbox for far less than a new one, and you send us back your old unit (the core), which we recondition in turn — a genuine circular economy approach.

What warranty comes with a reconditioned gearbox?

Every part is guaranteed for up to 24 months on the part, subject to conditions. Our gearboxes are bench-tested before dispatch, and every order comes with an invoice (VAT reclaimable for trade customers).

How do I find the right gearbox for my vehicle?

The easiest way: enter your number plate and we identify the exact model in seconds. You can also request an online quote — our advisers check compatibility using your registration document or the original part reference.

What are the delivery and payment terms?

Delivery throughout France and Europe, with return transport arranged for the exchange of the part. You can pay in instalments, up to 10 payments, to spread the cost.
