Nissan Juke Engines 2010 to 2019: two engine families, eight codes for one model

Over nine years of production, the Juke was offered with just two engines — the 1.5 dCi diesel and the 1.2 DIG-T petrol turbo — yet the technical reality is far more fragmented. The K9K alone comes in seven distinct codes (K9K636, K9K646, K9K656, K9K657, K9K837, K9K846, K9K896), each corresponding to a different regulatory standard, power output or engine management revision. The HR12DDT covers the 1.2 DIG-T, which appeared later in the model's life.

K9K: why the year and power output alone are not enough to identify the right engine

The K9K family is shared across several manufacturers within the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which creates a common pitfall: two Juke 1.5 dCi models from the same year can carry different engine codes depending on the market or power output (86 hp / 110 hp). Only the code stamped on the block allows you to select the correct reference — a mix-up between K9K657 and K9K896, for example, can lead to incompatibility with the ECU or intake components. The successive updates to the K9K on the Juke relate primarily to the cylinder head, the turbo and emissions standards (Euro 5, then Euro 6).

HR12DDT: a direct-injection turbocharged engine not to be confused with its naturally aspirated variants

The 1.2 DIG-T is based on the HR12DDT, the turbocharged, direct-injection petrol version of the HR12. This engine is mechanically distinct from all naturally aspirated variants of the same family used on other Nissan or Renault models. On the Juke, it is paired with a timing chain whose stretching is a well-known issue to monitor on high-mileage examples.
