Diesel and petrol, the Juke from 2010 to 2019 is built around two very different engine families

The Juke was available in just two engine options for the French market on this generation: the 1.5 dCi in diesel and the 1.2 DIG-T in turbocharged petrol. These two engines share nothing mechanically — not their design, not their wear parts, not their long-term behaviour. Choosing the right replacement engine therefore starts here: identify your engine type before anything else, as the two families are not interchangeable.

The K9K in diesel: seven variants, one engine capacity

The K9K block covers the entire diesel production run of the Juke. Seven distinct engine codes are recorded within this range: K9K636, K9K646, K9K656, K9K657, K9K837, K9K846 and K9K896. These variants reflect differences in calibration, emissions compliance or adaptation to different markets; they share the same basic architecture but are not systematically interchangeable. The engine code, stamped on the block, is the only reliable reference when ordering the correct part. The 1.5 dCi is by far the most represented engine in the range, which reflects its real-world prevalence in the Juke fleet.

The HR12DDT in petrol: a single code, a specific engine

The 1.2 DIG-T uses the HR12DDT block, a turbocharged three-cylinder direct-injection engine developed jointly with Renault. A single engine code covers the entire petrol production run of the Juke on this generation. This engine is structurally different from the K9K: smaller engine capacity, fewer cylinders, and its own lubrication and thermal management. The failure symptoms and weak points are not the same as on the diesel; a precise diagnosis is essential before concluding that a bare engine replacement is needed.
