The 2.3 dCi comes in fourteen distinct M9T codes — from M9T 672 to M9T 890 — spread across the entire 2011–2019 production run. Two vehicles from the same year, showing the same engine capacity, can carry different codes depending on the power output (100, 125 or 145 hp depending on the variant) and the emissions standard applicable at the date of manufacture. Identifying the code before placing any order is not simply a precaution: it is the condition for receiving a compatible engine.

What the M9T code reveals about the block's generation

The M9T family shares a common architecture, but there are genuine internal differences from one code to the next. The earliest codes (M9T 672, M9T 676, M9T 678) correspond to the 2011–2013 model years, subject to the initial Euro 5 standard. The intermediate codes (M9T 686 to M9T 698) cover the reinforced Euro 5 period and the first timing-gear revisions. The higher codes (M9T 870, M9T 876, M9T 890) accompany the move to Euro 6, with internal modifications to the cylinder head and thermal management. An M9T 704 or M9T 890 cannot be substituted with an M9T 672 without checking the mounting points and associated connectors.
