On the Espace, all turbos listed are new parts – rebuilding your own unit is not available here

The sales format makes the choice straightforward from the outset: every turbo referenced for the Renault Espace is a new part, sold by direct sale. There is no rebuild option here whereby your own turbo would be reconditioned and returned to you. This is a structural point: on a vehicle like the Espace, where some engines are from older generations (the 1.9 dTi dates back to the earliest models) or were produced in limited volumes, having a new OEM-referenced part is often safer than reconditioning a severely worn CHRA. For more recent engine families — the 2.0 dCi M9R or the 1.6 TCe M5M — a new part also guarantees original variable geometry and an original actuator, with no compromise on bearing condition.

Five engine families, with engine codes that are decisive

The Espace covers five clearly distinct engine groups. The 1.9 dTi (codes F8Q, F9Q 722, D 4192 T2) covers the 75 and 98 hp versions from the earliest generations. The 2.2 dCi 150 is based on codes G9T700, G9T702 and G9T703: a family in its own right, entirely separate from all 2.0 blocks. The 2.0 dCi splits into two M9R groups that must not be confused: codes M9R 650, 710, 712, 714 and 717 correspond to the 160 and 200 hp variants, whilst a much larger series — M9R 721, 740, 742, 744, 750, 760 to 763, 802, 805 to 809, 814 to 817, 820, 828, 845, 854, 855, 858, 865 and 866 — covers the 131, 150 and 173 hp versions. Finally, the 1.6 TCe 200 (code M5M) is the only petrol engine in the range. The engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable way to select the correct turbo reference: the same 2.0 engine capacity can correspond to incompatible turbos depending on the exact code.

Causes and symptoms to address before any replacement

A new turbo fitted without having addressed the root cause of the original failure will be destroyed in the same timeframe as the old one. On the Espace, recurring causes include insufficient lubrication (degraded oil, blocked feed pipe), EGR or DPF fouling accelerating bearing wear, and ingestion of foreign bodies on the intake side. Classic symptoms — a sharp whistling noise under acceleration, blue or black smoke, a marked drop in power — should prompt a thorough diagnosis before any replacement is carried out. Checking the intake circuit for leaks and assessing the condition of the lubrication system is essential, regardless of the engine.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Renault Espace Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Renault Espace Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
