Turbo Skoda Fabia: before and after the early failures that affected certain generations

On the Fabia, turbo fragility does not manifest itself in the same way depending on the engine. The 1.4 TDI (codes AMF, BAY, BHC, BMS, BNM, BNV, BWB) are known to be susceptible to oil circuit fouling: degraded lubrication or excessively long oil change intervals will eventually damage the CHRA bearings. The most common symptom is a whistling noise under acceleration accompanied by persistent blue smoke, sometimes preceded by a limp mode. On the 1.2 TSI (codes CBZA, CBZB), the variable geometry can seize up due to fouling, causing a significant loss of boost. Before fitting a new turbo, it is essential to identify and address the root cause of the failure: incorrect oil grade, a clogged EGR, or air leaks on the intake hoses — all factors that will condemn the replacement part in short order.

Five engine variants, five references not to mix up

The catalogue covers five distinct engine variants. The 1.9 TDI (codes ATD, AXR) uses a fixed-geometry turbo with a wastegate, which is very different from the variable-geometry turbos found on the 1.4 TDI. The 1.2 TDI 75 hp (code CFWA) shares few references with the other diesel variants despite a similar engine capacity. On the petrol side, the 1.4 TSI RS 180 hp (code CAVE) is the most thermally stressed variant and has its own set of references — not to be confused with those of the 1.2 TSI. The engine code stamped on the block remains the only reliable guide when ordering the correct part.

All turbos on this page are new

All turbos listed in this collection are new parts, sold outright with no old unit to return. There are multiple OEM and equivalent references for each engine variant — particularly for the 1.4 TDI, which has several dozen references depending on the power output (70, 75 or 80 hp) and year of production.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Skoda Fabia Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Skoda Fabia Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
