Does the engine code stamped on your Jetta really change the turbo reference?

Yes, and this is precisely where ordering mistakes happen. Take the 2.0 TDI 140: two families coexist on the Jetta, one covered by engine codes BKD and CBDB, the other by CBEA and CJAA — these last two codes also appear in the "2.0 TDI 140 hp" variant in the file, yet the associated turbo references differ. Ordering on engine capacity and rated power alone will therefore result in receiving an incompatible part.

Petrol: from the 1.8 T naturally aspirated management to the 1.4 TSI Hybrid — entirely unrelated architectures

The 1.8 T (codes AGU, APH, AWD, AWP, AWU, AWV, AWW, BKF, BNU) is a fixed-geometry, wastegate unit from an older generation, whose OEM references bear no relation to those of the 1.8 TSI (codes CPKA, CPRA), a more recent variable-geometry architecture. The 1.4 TSI 125 hp (CMBA, CPVA, CPVB, CXSA, CXSB, CZCA) and the 1.2 TSI (CBZA, CBZB, CBZC) share the same entry-level turbocharged petrol family, but their references remain distinct. The 1.4 TSI Hybrid 150/156 hp (CNLA, CRJA, CUKB, CUKC, CXUA) is a special case: the thermal management specific to the hybrid powertrain requires a dedicated reference that is not interchangeable with the standard 1.4 TSI.

Common symptoms, causes and precautions for Jetta turbos

On both diesel and petrol engines in the Jetta, turbo failures follow recurring patterns: a high-pitched whine under load, persistent blue smoke from the exhaust, a drop in boost pressure and loss of acceleration. The most common causes are lubrication breakdown (degraded oil, delayed oil supply on start-up), clogging from EGR gases on the diesel side, and foreign-body ingestion on the intake side. Fitting a new turbo without having identified and addressed the original cause of failure will lead to another premature failure: check the oil circuit, the feed pipe and the air filter before any replacement. All turbos available in this range are new parts, to OEM reference or equivalent.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Volkswagen Jetta Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Volkswagen Jetta Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
