Symptoms of a failing turbo on the BMW Z4 sDrive20i and sDrive30i
On the BMW Z4 (G29), loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise from the engine bay, abnormal exhaust smoke (blue or black) or an illuminated engine warning light are often the first signs of a turbo nearing the end of its life. On the B48B20B and B46B20B units, these symptoms are sometimes accompanied by excessive oil consumption or abnormal play in the turbo shaft, noticeable at idle. The sporting driving style typical of this roadster, with frequent high-rev use, places considerable strain on the forced induction system and can accelerate wear if maintenance is not kept up to scratch.
About the new turbo for the BMW Z4
This new turbo is compatible with reference 894020-5009S and is a direct replacement for the original forced induction unit fitted to the BMW Z4 (G29). It is designed to restore the boost pressure required for the correct operation of the 2.0-litre petrol engines fitted to this roadster, with no loss of performance or reliability compared with the part it replaces.
Engine compatibility on the BMW Z4
This turbo is suitable for the sDrive20i and sDrive30i variants of the BMW Z4 (G29), powered by the 1998 cm³ petrol units bearing engine codes B48B20B and B46B20B. Before placing an order, it is strongly recommended that you check the exact reference marked on the old turbo once removed, to ensure full compatibility with your vehicle.

Exchange basis and warranty for this turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: return of the old turbo is required in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, and it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your BMW Z4 is not left off the road unnecessarily. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the B48/B46
Before installation, carefully check the oil circuit (pressure, cleanliness, absence of carbon deposits in the feed and return lines), the condition of the hoses and the air intake upstream of the turbo. Priming the turbo with oil before the first start-up is essential to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings. Regularly checking engine oil quality, service intervals, the air filter and the intercooler will help extend the service life of this turbo on your BMW Z4.
