Signs of a worn turbo on your Amarok 3.0 TDI V6
On the Volkswagen Amarok pick-up fitted with the 3.0 TDI V6 engine, a turbocharger that is nearing the end of its life often makes itself known through a whistling or light knocking noise under acceleration, a noticeable loss of power – particularly under load or when towing – abnormal exhaust smoke (blue or black), and an engine warning light on the dashboard. Erratic engine behaviour, hesitation on re-acceleration, or increased fuel consumption are also warning signs not to be ignored on this engine, which places heavy demands on its variable-geometry turbo – especially during commercial or off-road use.
New turbo for the Amarok 3.0 TDI V6: compatibility
This new turbo is compatible with reference 888580-5001S and its equivalents, and is intended for Volkswagen Amarok models fitted with the 3.0 TDI V6 engine with a capacity of 2967 cm³. Before placing an order, it is essential to check the exact reference printed on your old turbo or on the vehicle's identification plate, as the various power outputs of this V6 engine may share closely related but non-interchangeable references.

Exchange and warranty for your Amarok
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required; however, it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your Amarok is never left off the road. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the 3.0 TDI V6
On this V6 engine, turbo longevity is closely linked to the quality and cleanliness of the engine oil: follow the service intervals scrupulously and use an oil that meets the manufacturer's specifications. Also check the condition of the air filter and the intercooler for leaks – two sensitive points that, if neglected, can accelerate turbo wear. Before fitting, inspect the oil circuit (hoses and return line), ensure there is no contamination in the air intake, and check the condition of the electronic variable-geometry actuator. When starting up for the first time, prime the turbo with oil before the initial start, and avoid any hard acceleration during the first few kilometres to allow the assembly to lubricate properly.
