Three engine codes for seven Abarth gearboxes (2007–2015)

On Abarth models from this period, the engine code is the essential starting point: 312A1000, 312B4000 and 198A1000 denote three variants of the 1.4 T-Jet that do not share the same gearbox, even when the exterior model is identical. The 198A1000 is fitted notably to the Grande Punto Abarth, whilst the 312A1 and 312B4 codes are found mainly on the 500 Abarth. Mixing up any two of these codes means ordering an incompatible part.

MTA, 5-speed manual or 6-speed manual: three distinct architectures

The catalogue covers three transmission types: 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and MTA (automated manual gearbox with an electro-hydraulic actuator). The MTA is a mechanically operated automated gearbox; it is supplied without the robot unit or actuator, whose condition and availability must be dealt with separately. The 5-speed and 6-speed manuals are not interchangeable with one another, and the correct match depends on both the engine code and the vehicle's model year — early 500 Abarth models (from 2007 onwards) and later versions may differ on this point.

Two purchasing options depending on the condition of your original gearbox

The Abarth gearboxes in this collection are available either on an exchange basis or as a rebuild of your own unit. This second option is aimed at cases where the exact reference is difficult to source, or where the gearbox has a known history that the owner wishes to retain. In both cases, the engine code stamped on the engine plate — not simply the engine capacity — remains the key piece of information for identifying the correct unit from the seven references in the catalogue.
