Jumpy 1998 to 2016: three gearbox families for five engines

On the first- and second-generation Jumpy, the gearbox to replace cannot be determined by engine capacity alone. The same 2.0 HDi can take either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed manual depending on the year and engine code — RHZ, RHK and RHR are not fitted with the same unit. This initial identification determines the appropriate supply method: for a common reference such as the 2.0 HDi gearboxes, exchange covers the majority of cases. For a rarer unit — the 2.8 HDi (code 8140.43S, 5-speed manual only) or the 1.9 HDi (code AHZ) — rebuilding the original unit may be the only viable option if no stock unit is an exact match.

The special case of the ETG6 on the 1.6 HDi

The 1.6 HDi (codes 9HU, 9HM, 9HH) is the only Jumpy engine to offer three gearbox types: 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and the automated manual ETG6. The latter is supplied without its automated actuator — only the internal mechanical components are reconditioned. This is a critical point before ordering: if the actuator or the control unit is faulty, the gearbox alone will not resolve the problem. The codes WJZ and WJY (2.0 petrol, engine codes RFN / EW10J4) complete the catalogue but remain marginal on this light commercial vehicle. Checking the code stamped on the gearbox casing remains the only way to cross-reference the engine, generation and exact reference.
