Nemo 1.4 HDi or 1.3 HDi: same 5-speed gearbox, but not the same engine code

On the Citroën Nemo (2008–2018), all three available engines share a 5-speed manual gearbox, but correct identification absolutely requires checking the engine code stamped on the block. The 1.4 HDi carries the code 8HS, the 1.4 Petrol the code KFV, and the 1.3 HDi comes in three distinct codes: 199A9000, F13DTE5 and FHZ. These codes are not interchangeable: a gearbox from an 8HS engine is not mechanically compatible with a 1.3 HDi block, despite both having the same number of ratios.

1.4 HDi vs 1.3 HDi: two diesels, two gearbox families

The 1.4 HDi (8HS) is the Nemo's original diesel engine from 2008, derived from an older-generation PSA architecture. The 1.3 HDi, introduced later in the model's life, is based on a Fiat-GM block (MultiJet/CDTI family); its multiple engine codes reflect homologation changes across different markets and model years. The gearboxes associated with these two families differ in their bellhousing and casings: relying solely on engine capacity without checking the engine code is the most common ordering mistake on this vehicle.

This collection offers gearboxes for all three engines, with four references available for the 1.4 HDi alone, reflecting the variety of axle and final-drive ratio variants across different years and markets. Two purchasing options are available: the standard exchange basis and a rebuilt-to-0-km option. Before placing any order, locating the engine code on the cylinder block — not on the vehicle's registration document — is an essential step for a light commercial vehicle whose components may have been replaced during its service life.
